Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to outline the main pedagogical approaches and framework developed as a model for teaching with geographic information systems (GIS) technology, as applied in teacher education contexts with students in higher education (HE). A short review of academic literature will provide the basis for the work, followed by a critique of the model and its application in education. This will then be used to make suggestions for further developments in HE pedagogy and in particular its use to promote more value-based collaborative work within sustainability education.
