‘Students and educators must learn about AI to prepare them for a future increasingly intertwined with AI technologies, including understanding AI's principles, applications and ethical implications’ (World Economic Forum, 2024).

On 19–21 February 2025, the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met in Barbados for the 48th Heads of Government meeting. One decision that came out of that meeting was to establish an educational transformation task force for the region (CARICOM to establish Educational Transformation Commission, 2025). This comes immediately on the heels of media reports from five territories (Jamaica, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Guyana) that Caribbean education is in crisis. This news was broadcasted on several social media platforms. Based on the World Bank's assessment, while the Caribbean had seen significant improvements in access to education, the need for urgent reforms was evidenced by ‘outdated teaching practices, ill-equipped infrastructure, and widening educational inequities’ (Brathwaite, 2025).
