Established as a joint venture between BP Marine and Unitor in June 2000, Marine Alliance immediately had to address its direction and focus. To this end, staff at Marine Alliance UK CSC embarked on a new training program, the Power of Calm. Marine Alliance was formed to support BP Marine and Unitor in supplying non‐perishable goods and services to the shipping industry. With a new UK team of 45 employees working hard to establish the company in a competitive market, staff morale was low and working relationships were under pressure. The company had an immediate requirement to achieve high productivity and work performance, which would in turn help the continued growth of the company. Parent company BP Marine, which was also undergoing much business change, recommended the Power of Calm program.
