Purpose – Highlights the increasing use of coaching by UK firms and discusses how they are using it. Design/methodology/approach – Indicates research that shows how firms use coaching and which staff have access to it. Notes the tendency to restrict it to senior managers and cites organizations,such as the BBC, that have introduced it for all levels of staff. Looks at the potential to train employees to deliver coaching within the organization. An inset describes the coaching initiative at the UK’s Home Office (government department). Two other insets focus on the benefits of providing coaching for all employees. Findings – Underlines the value of coaching and the advantages of extending it across the organization.
