The problems of evaluation or appraisal of academics, with respect not only to ability, but also promotion, salary increases, and the granting of tenure is discussed. The way in which appraisal helps a professor learn more about himself and what he is accomplishing is posed along with ideas of developing action plans to achieve certain goals and standards.
