The popularity of TQM in Asia raises the question of how well students who must later work with the concept understand TQM. Investigates changes in undergraduate and postgraduate Hong Kong engineering student perceptions of TQM structure. Compares exploratory factor analysis of questionnaire responses from 165 manufacturing engineering undergraduates with responses from 107 graduate students from electrical engineering and engineering management. Comparison of the factors suggests that students start at an idealistic structural view of TQM and move towards a cultural perspective. Data also suggest that practitioners in South China may not see full implementation of all TQM concepts as appropriate for their environment.
