Although many executives have a personal desk‐top computer, more often than not it is their secretary who uses it. Many executives have not yet assimilated the requisite skills. The growth of office automation is still dominated by installation of incompatible micros and departmental boundaries. It is believed that to keep pace with automation within a restricted budget many companies may install videotyping systems which offer a blend of typing, word‐processing and telecommunications functions. However, unless attitudes change, it will be the secretaries who are using the technology, not the directors.
