CS2 breaks ground on second site – cleanroom capacity will more than triple

Keywords CS2, Growth

Just two years after its establishment, CS2 has begun construction of a second area array foundry at Kortenberg, Belgium, situated 2km from its existing facility close to the airport. The greenfield site will be home to a new 12,000m2purpose-built structure, including a third cleanroom that will more than triple the company's cleanroom area to approximately 6,000m2.

The company expects the site to be operational by this autumn and ready for cleanroom qualification in November.

This investment programme, which follows CS2's successful listing on EASDAQ last month, is one element of a strategy aimed at making the company a prime contractor of semiconductor companies catering to the European market. In addition to the new facility, CS2 is increasing the number of automated packaging lines from two to six, and is currently developing the "thin-film"technologies it licensed last year from IMEC, Europe's leading microelectronics R&D Centre.

The Kortenberg site will eventually accommodate 15 automated packaging lines, with the possibility of expansion to 25 lines.
