New control system and air-tight sealing techniques slash operating cost of desiccator storage systems

Terra Universal,manufacturer of standard and customized desiccators, has introduced advanced control system and air-tight sealing technology which claims to greatly reduce the cost of dessicating while ensuring superior protection against contaminants,moisture, and static. The advanced control system minimizes costly nitrogen consumption, and a new gasket material and application technique ensure the desiccator's internal environment is protected by an effective and consistent air-tight seal.

The advanced control system minimizes nitrogen consumption by monitoring and controlling the relative humidity within each individual chamber of the desiccator. When a chamber's relative humidity begins to change, a high-flow purge using nitrogen or inert gas is directed to that chamber only, bringing its relative humidity back to the proper percentage before stored materials can be damaged. Unlike central control systems which do not compartmentalize functions to specific chambers, this efficient process greatly reduces the amount of consumables necessary to operate a desiccator, resulting in significant long-term savings.

Terra Universal has also perfected a method of mechanically attaching a gasket to steel door frames. No adhesives are used in this process, eliminating an eventual chemical reaction between the gasket and adhesive material, which often leads to the loss of air-tight protection as the gasket detaches from the frame.

The gaskets are composed of a unique, non-corrosive, non-outgassing material that is exceptionally resilient. They will not permanently set to a compressed shape, and despite constant wear caused by workers opening and closing the desiccator doors,continually spring back to the original shape. This means the desiccator will remain air-tight for a longer period of time, and unnecessary part rejections due to moisture and particle contamination will be eliminated.
