BC Components, the major new electronic components company which was formed from Philips Components, has announced the appointment of Allan Choy as chief executive officer (CEO) of its BC Components Centralab division based in Hong Kong (Plate 1).

During a period with the company between 1970 and 1986 he rose to the position of general manager Centralab Asia-Pacific, before leaving to join German battery manufacturer Varta GmbH. During his period with Centralab he was also on the board of directors of another Philips company,Airpax Singapore.

Now that he has returned as CEO of BC Components Centralab, Choy has set himself two immediate goals."The first is to extend our product portfolio to achieve even greater penetration into Asia-Pacific markets, particularly China", he said. "The second is to use our extensive and highly regarded sales and service organisations to introduce products from other BC Components divisions into Asia-Pacific markets."
Choy regards China as particularly important for BC Components, not only as a manufacturing base for many more of the company's products, but also as a highly active market that has largely escaped the economic turmoil endemic in other parts of Asia-Pacific.
Allan Choy is a graduate of Hong Kong University and holds an MBA from the University of East Asia.
