Ferro Electronic Materials (FEM) has announced the introduction of A6-S LTCC material system for wireless applications.
A6-S is formulated from Ferro's patented Calcium borosilicate glass chemistry, similar to A6 M, has a reported dielectric constant of 5.9 and a loss tangent of less than 0.0015 up to 60GHz. This material was developed to address those devices that require very low pricing while demanding the very low dielectric constant and loss such as Bluetooth, PDAs, cell phones, advance guidance systems for automotive applications, LMDS, and switches and routers.
In addition, FEM has also introduced a new silver system for A6-S interconnection, employing a novel technology known as SAMS for Self-Adhering Metallization System. The pure silver system including CN 33-391 and CN 33-398 has a reported sheet resistivity of 0.8 milli ohms per square. Tests have demonstrated that microstrip packages built with this system have exhibited insertion losses of less than 0.17dB/inch at frequencies of up to 25GHz.
A6-S is currently available in commercial quantities with green thicknesses of 60 micron, 100 micron, 5 mil and 10 mil, and in widths of 7 and 13 inches.
