Precision thin film resistors now available in chip scale format

Keywords: CAMD, Resistors, Chip scale packaging

California Micro Devices Corporation (CAMD) has announced the availability of FCRN303 series SMD resistor chips, which are drop-in replacements to traditional 0805 chips, such as the PTN Series thin film resistors from Vishay. The FCRN303 chips are built using a highly stable Tantalum Nitride resistor film and offer absolute tolerances as tight as +/–0.1 percent and Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) as low as +/–25ppm/°C. Additionally, the devices offer low noise and low voltage coefficient.

According to Ashok Chalaka, vice president of IPD marketing, "CAMD has responded to a significant shortage of precision 0805 resistors in the market by providing a drop-in replacement using our Chip Scale technology. Within two weeks of receiving a call from a customer, our engineers developed a part that fits the socket using proven, available in-house technology."

Current lead-times in the industry for precision 0805 resistors are running as high as 24 weeks. CAMD is offering the FCRN303s in four to six weeks.

FCRN303 devices are built on ceramic substrates with solder bumps, like Chip Scale parts, for direct placement on to printed circuit boards. The high precision and stability make these devices ideally suited for a wide variety of applications such as voltage dividers, current sensing and precision gain setting/matching.
