The Emergence of Advertising in America: 1850‐1920 (EAA) is a database containing over 9,000 scanned images from the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History at Duke University Rare Book, Manuscript and Special Collections Library. The project was made possible by a grant from the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Competition, awarded in 1997‐8 to digitize primary source materials. The selected images represent American life and culture, and the purpose of the online archive is to make these images available for study and research.
