It seems incredible that a bibliography comprising a mere 944 entries within 23 chapters (so‐called) can cover a continent as large as Africa. Of course, this publication does not claim to be a complete bibliography, but only a bibliography of sources. Most of the entries are annotated, but again the authors have been sparing, as these notes are sometimes no more than a couple of lines each. Nevertheless, they can be useful signposts.
