Folk Music on Disc: The Alan Lomax Collection: Classical Ballads of Britain and Ireland

All the classical ballads are from celebrated collections of Professor Francis J. Child. The first disc covers ballads Child 2 to Child 106. The second covers Child 105 to 299. It would have been impossible to include every ballad and the mere thought of Child’s collected variants is formidable. On these discs, Lomax and his collaborators (Peter Kennedy, Bob Cooper, Seamus Ennis, Hamish Henderson, Maud Karpeles, Sean O’Boyle and Patrick Shuldham‐Shaw ‐ quite a roll call) have gathered a representative selection.
