Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries is a searchable online listening service with over 35,000 tracks of world music, spoken word, and natural and human‐made sounds. The original Smithsonian Global Sound (SGS) collection, a project of the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, is made available as Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries (SGS for Libraries) through Alexander Street Press. Alexander Street has taken the multi‐disciplinary content of SGS, extracted valuable information for indexing purposes, and formed a search interface that is unique to the subject matter and user‐friendly as a result.
