Purpose

Management of people-centric challenges requires a holistic approach to align individuals’ needs with the organisation’s objectives and values. This study aims to capture these challenges and discusses how a well-designed Performance Management System (PMS) can enable organisations to overcome these challenges.

Design/methodology/approach

This study is based on qualitative data captured from the Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) and five senior members of a large asset management company in India.

Findings

A total of five people-centric challenges were surfaced, and the deliberations shed light on the possible solutions to each of the challenges.

Practical implications

The findings are extremely relevant to organisations and Human Resource practitioners who want to align PMS with organisational vision and minimise the people-centric challenges.

Originality/value

This study captures lived experiences and perspectives from both the stakeholders (employees and CHRO) to understand the people-centric challenges and their respective solutions.
