Philips Electronic Manufacturing Technology's (EMT) innovative customer roadshow visited the UK in September as part of its whistle-stop European tour. The year-long roadshow brings Philips EMT's latest products to the doorsteps of key customers, in a travelling exhibition set up inside a specially adapted demonstration truck (Plate 2) taking products direct to the customer, rather than expecting the customer to come to them.

Peter Bayes, Philips EMT's UK Sales and Service Manager said: "In the past we have taken machines to exhibitions, but customers cannot always spare time away from the office to visit them. Taking our products on the road is the ideal solution and it also enables every employee on the customer site to see the machines in operation."

In a spirit of co-operation, UK customers who are hosting the roadshow are allowing other interested parties, including competitor companies, to visit the roadshow when it is on their premises. The truck has been decorated on the outside with Philips' logos and images and has moveable sides that expand the available floor space to approximately 6.5 by 9.5 metres. Inside, Philips has fitted three cutting-edge placement machines, which are fully operational and can run board assembly demonstrations.

The roadshow kicked off in the Netherlands in May, before visiting Belgium,Italy, France, Germany and Scandinavia.
