SMTA annual meeting to feature Solectron president Ko Nishimura

The Annual Meeting during SMTA International (September 30 - October 4 at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Chicago, IL) will be held on Tuesday,October 2 from noon to 1:30p.m. and will feature Dr Koichi Nishimura, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Solectron, as the keynote speaker. The title of his address will be "The true value of EMS is in the service".

Dr Koichi Nishimura, 62, oversees Solectron's corporate, strategic and emerging business units worldwide. He has helped transform Solectron from a regional entity into the world's largest and most profitable electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company. Nishimura joined Solectron in 1988 as chief operating officer, and in 1990 he became president. In 1992 he was appointed chief executive officer. He was elected chairman of the board in 1996.

Also during the Annual Meeting, the SMTA will present its Association Awards and the Charles Hutchins Educational Grant. The SMTA Awards are given out annually to members who have given their time, energy and expertise to ensure the success of both the SMTA and the industry. Whether improving or expanding SMTA activities, contributing to industry efforts, or participating in and attending events, the Awards are meant to recognize and honor the recipients. The Hutchins Grant, co-sponsored by the SMTA and Circuits Assemblymagazine, is a $5,000 award that is given annually to a graduate-level student. The Grant is in memory of past SMTA president and industry colleague Charles Hutchins, and is intended for students pursuing a degree and working on thesis research in the electronics packaging or a related field.
