Purpose – Describes embedded learning as a means of providing information and learning at the time it is needed by using non-learning technologies, such as instant messaging, to enable employees to find the answers to questions from their colleagues, these answers being then made available to everyone by placing them in the organization’s knowledge system. Design/methodology/approach – Quotes an example of embedded learning to illustrate how it is achieved. Reviews the advantages of this approach to learning and indicates how it fits into the other, more formal approaches to training that are carried out in organizations. Findings – Argues that embedded learning will enable organizations to become learning organizations. Also argues that new technologies will enable learning to be integrated more effectively in work processes allowing employees to access learning at any time they need or want to do this. Originality/value – Explains the potential benefits of embedded learning.ISSN: 1535-7740Reference: 35AG703
