Purpose – To determine ways in which a company can counter the forces tending to erode the ability of internal research and development (R&D) to contribute to a company’s revenue growth. Design/methodology/approach– A review of the literature of the forces that can erode a company’s R&D value (“value eroders”) is presented. Develops a framework derived from two sources: a database of hundreds of business models produced by Analogy Partners; and a set of lessons from a project to improve a company’s new product development cycle time. Focuses on three main types of value eroders(“inner sanctum” value eroders, “courtyard” value eroders,“forum” value eroders) and presents frequently-occurring examples for each of the three classes of value eroder.Article Type: Research paperISSN: 0895-6308Reference: 38AS022
