Aims to verify the effect on visual inspection performance as the number of fault types increases and to investigate the main personality traits of a competent inspector using factor analysis. Forty subjects participated in the experiment. The performance measures were response time and error rate. A significant effect was found when the number of fault types increased. Four factors obtained by factor analysis demonstrate that the personality of a competent inspector includes the following characteristics: stability, enthusiasm, sensitivity, and suspicion.
