Embedded Systems Show 2008 has been hailed a success by visitors, exhibitors and the show’s new organisers, TechInsights. Attracting record levels of industry decision makers (84 per cent out of the total of 1,581 registrations),and praise from exhibitors for the high quality of attendees, ESS provided an ideal environment for generating new business.
This year saw a significant increase in attendance by those responsible for systems engineering, and a corresponding rise in visitors specifying embedded boards and hardware development tools. Strong growth was seen particularly in the automotive transportation and medical sectors. The new features of 2008– live teardowns and the BeagleBoard development programme – proved especially popular.
Feedback from exhibitors was particularly positive. “We had a very successful show and were pleased with all aspects of the organisation,”said Patrick Martin, UK Sales Manager at Eurocircuits. “We received our first orders the day after the show from new customers. I expect that we will be booking the same stand next year.”
Likewise, Richard Colpman, Business Development Manager, Displays &Systems, at APC-Hero commented: “ESS 2008 was the perfect venue for APC-Hero to exhibit its wide range of embedded systems components. During the two days we met plenty of engineers and specifiers who had travelled to the NEC for a specific purpose. The first-rate quality of our leads means we will be back next year!” Solid State Supplies also plans to return in 2009: “We look forward to participating next year and have put the dates in our diaries,”said Matt Cook, Senior Field Sales Engineer.
Same venue, new name for 2009
Next year’s show, which returns to the NEC on 7-8 October 2009, will be called ESC UK, the Embedded Systems Show. The new name will align the UK show more closely with TechInsights’ global portfolio of ESC events. The organiser’s reputation for investment in high-value conference content will doubtless be reflected in the quality of next year’s exhibition and conference, which will also feature dedicated areas for embedded networks, embedded displays and embedded power.
